After what many people on the island regarded as a successful event, the Music On - New Years Eve party at Amnesia, which featured two of last seasons hottest DJ's, may not run again. Press officer for Amnesia, Mr Jesus Sierra, told the blog that "although the party was a success attendance wise, it was conceived as a once off event. There are no plans at present to hold a similar party next New Years Eve". Over 4000 people were in the club and while the main room was busy, it was not as full as the terrace, which rocked to some killer sets from headline acts Marco Carola and Jamie Jones. The brave initiative by Amnesia to hold a New Years Eve party with two big names on the bill, has to be complimented, as the event did attract quiet a number of tourists who travelled specifically to the island for the party which continued until 12 o'clock on New Years Day. They then headed en masse to DC10, where Sven Vath really pushed a busy crowd through its paces with an extended 3 hour set.
Whether Amnesia will decide to put together an Ibiza 2014 New Years Eve party or not, may have more to do with logistics and finances than anything else. The business of operating a normal nightclub is a costly affair, so one can only imagine the expenditure associated to a club the size of Amnesia. It will be a real shame if Amnesia cannot find a viable solution to hold a 2014 NYE party, as any momentum gained from last weeks event will be lost. This is an ideal opportunity for the various stakeholders in the local Ibiza tourism industry, to come together and work out a viable option that will allow a NYE festival to become a regular fixture on the islands tourist calender. With the goodwill already established by Amnesia and clubs such as Pacha and DC10, any new initiative will move with a wind in its sails. Lets hope that the Hotels, Clubs, DJ's, promoters, car rentals, restaurants and bars, can come up with a package that will attract the tourists, as a market is there for one. It may take a couple of years before it generates substantial profit, but it will be time and investment well spent and will be seen as giving something back to the island and its economy by the sectors who profit so tidily during the summer months.
